Congratulations to our class for winning the Spirit Award this week! Don't forget to wear your spirit wear this Friday so we can keep our beautiful banner.

Have a wonderful week! :)

Week of August 15th-19th
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!
We have lots of learning going on this week. Here is a copy of this week’s newsletter: 2nd Grade Newsletter August 15th-19th
In the newsletter you will find our homework schedule for the week. We learned our new focus, challenge, and sight words for the week. Our focus words cover the short vowel sounds for e, i, and u. We will be learning the “Short Vowel Beat” to help us remember these sounds. A copy came home tonight (in the green poetry folder) so you can practice at home. You will find our weekly fluency passage inside the clear sheet protector. Practice this each night. I will record your child’s reading fluency on Friday.
Calculating Fluency Formula: Time your child for one minute.
Words read - errors= Fluency Rate (Our goal by the END of 2nd grade is 90 Words Per Minute)
We are reviewing our basic addition facts and strategies this week in math. A practice sheet went home in your child’s folder. It is for the whole week…just a few problems a night. :) Your child can turn in the whole practice sheet on Friday morning.
I know that was a lot of information…let me know if you have any questions. lellington@paulding.k12.ga.us

A letter was sent home today about Focus Words, Sight Words, Notebooks, and Fluency. Please read over it, sign, and return as soon as possible. This way I know that you understand what to expect in our classroom. We will have our first test over the Focus Words on Friday. These words are a mixture of short a and short i sounds. If you're not sure how to study...head on over to Spelling City and type in my last name. This should bring up our list of words. If you have any questions, please e-mail me at lellington@paulding.k12.ga.usDon't forget that Frozen Friday starts this Friday! :)

3 Days Down...
and many more fun days to go! I hope everyone had a wonderful first couple of days. I really enjoyed getting to know my sweet group of kiddos. The SAFARI binder that keeps coming home is our main tool for classroom/home communication. Please make sure that you check your child's binder for notes from me, initial his/her behavior calendar. Most importantly, make sure it is brought back to school. :)
The newsletter will go home on Monday. I will also attempt to send it out via e-mail. I'm going to use the e-mail address that was given on the information card. You can always e-mail me if you want it sent to a different e-mail address.
Just for fun...ask your child if he/she was a bucket dipper or bucket filler!
I've uploaded this weeks Focus Words onto http://www.spellingcity.com/. Each week a new word list will be added. The kids are able to play spelling games with their word lists, take a practice test, practice handwriting, etc. Let me know if you have any issues logging on.
